March 04, 2021 06:00 PM - 07:00 PM
On March 4th, 1863 Abraham Lincoln signed a Congressional act that officially created the Idaho Territory. Since 2013, March 4th commemorates Idaho’s inspiring past, present, and future as Idaho Day. History Happy Hour is honored to present Idaho Day 2021 virtually through a special event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Idaho State Capitol building! The Capitol’s construction began in 1905 and continued across two phases until it was dedicated to the people in 1921. Inspiration for our “Capitol of Light” came from many places and times. Some resources were sourced locally, connecting the statehouse with the land that surrounds it, while other skills and supplies came from around the world! Tune in for a conversation about what makes Idaho’s statehouse spectacular. Join Andy Erstad, Chairman of the Capitol Commission and owner of Erstad Architects, and Tricia Canaday, Administrator of the Idaho State Historic Preservation Office. Special guest moderator, Janet Gallimore, Executive Director of the Idaho State Historical Society, will give you a rare opportunity to learn how 100 years of history shape the Capitol we see today! Ask your questions during the live audience Q&A or email them ahead of time to events@ishs.idaho.gov. Be sure to register early for this free virtual event; space is limited to the first 100 registrants. Reserve your spot at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/2016123082303/WN_Wv5olXCOSuuZqyr5vuKFDg
