IDAHO FALLS — On Friday, July 23, Idaho Falls Magazine will announce the winners of the East Idaho Community Photo Contest in a video posted to their official website and social media pages at 12 p.m. MST. The video will also be sent out in the magazine’s newsletter, giving subscribers an exclusive look at the winning photos before the official photo contest issue arrives on doorsteps in August.
The contest has seen more participants than ever before, with thousands of submissions from around the East Idaho region. Categories of submissions include Birds, Sports & Recreation, Nature & Wildlife, Portraits, Scenics and the Open category for any other submissions. Winners receive bragging rights, prizes and have their photo featured in the August issue of Idaho Falls Magazine.
“Although this is a departure from in-person award ceremonies of the past, we believe winners, contestants and readers alike will enjoy tuning into this special video highlighting our 2021 winners,” Editor Emily FitzPatrick said. “Our former editor, Steve Smede, is a talented videographer who has used his talents to create a video highlighting all of the winners, allowing people near and far to view the wonders of our region.”
Smede remains the mastermind behind the photo contest, using his experienced eye to pick the best submissions before passing final contestants onto a panel of hand selected judges from around the East Idaho region. Smede organized the contest in 2009 and has since watched it grow to be a community-wide event. The August issue of the magazine is now the best performing digital issue of the year, drawing the attention of readers not only in East Idaho, but from across the country.
