Nestled by Fred Meyer is a unique treasure to the Idaho Falls area. The East Idaho Aquarium provides a range of exhibits and educational programs to bring information to the public about sea creatures, ranging from starfish to sharks to local fish and other wildlife. It’s the perfect place to escape for a few hours with the family while enjoying an experience that both informs and entertains.

The aquarium boasts the largest shark tank in Idaho with a number of sharks to watch. However, sharks aren’t the only thing to look forward to. Every Saturday at 2 p.m., mermaids join the sharks in their tank, an experience you won’t want to miss out on, especially if you are bringing the littles.

If you’re a tactile person, then you will fall in love with the interactive exhibits where you can pet and feed stingrays, touch starfish and visit with birds and reptiles. The one-on-one experience with these animals instills a new appreciation for the wildlife surrounding us in various parts of the world and closer to home with an exhibit of fish which can be found locally.

“You get what you want out of the aquarium,” said Aaron Farris. “You can walk through it really fast, but if you want to interact with everything you can be here two or three hours. You can interact with the staff and see what they know about the animals. It’s phenomenal what we’ve got here, especially for Idaho Falls.”
