Harris Publishing Expands Services

Is the idea of seeing your name in print something that brings you joy? There are so many writers out there that the idea of trying to put your work out into the world can seem terribly intimidating. Even within our East Idaho region the competition is stiff, but it might not be as difficult as you think to fulfill your dreams of becoming an author.

Publishing was previously an arduous process without much reward for self-published authors investing money in their own work. However, thanks to technology, the publishing tides are quickly shifting and allowing for self-publishers to truly find their niche. 

Through Harris Publishing you can pay to have your work submitted and immediately available to sell on Amazon Kindle through a software called Vellum. Although this still requires authors to effectively publicize their work through avenues like Facebook and Instagram, it is a quick way to get printed copies available for eager readers. This is especially helpful for books locals might want to print for posterity’s sake, including children’s books and books surrounding family history.

Darryl Harris, Harris Publishing’s founder, has had years of experience not only in the magazine publishing industry, but also in book publishing. Darryl has written a total of five books, all historical romances, since his retirement. He’s gone through the process of submitting his work to publishing houses and recently regained the rights to his books so that he could self-publish them anew under new titles. 

“I’ve been writing about a book a year since I retired,” Darryl said. “I picked a subject and I acquired 20 to 30 historical books and I devoured them. I got it in my head and then I picked the story and put it in that historical context. So, it’s a lot of fun.”
