The National Science Bowl is an academic competition that tests students' knowledge of math and science. High school and middle school students are quizzed in a fast-paced question-and-answer format. The U.S. Department of Energy launched the competition in 1991 to encourage high school students to excel in science and math and to pursue careers in those fields.

This is the 25th year Idaho National Laboratory has sponsored the Jeopardy-style tournament in which teams of high school students buzz in to answer math- and science-related questions.

This spring, more than 9,500 high school students and 4,500 middle school students will compete in 70 high school and 50 middle school regional Science Bowl tournaments. The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science manages the National Science Bowl, and sponsors the NSB finals competition.
