Idaho Falls Mayor Rebecca Casper is now accepting applications to fill a City Council vacancy. The application letter can be found on the home page of the city’s website at www.idahofallsidaho.gov.
A council seat became vacant after Councilman Dee Whittier passed away on March 1 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center due to complications from a heart attack sustained on Feb. 23
According to Idaho Code, Title 50-704, a vacancy on the council shall be filled by appointment made by the mayor with the consent of the council, which appointee shall serve until the next general city election, at which such vacancy shall be filled for the balance of the original term.
The deadline for applications is March 20, with the intent to appoint the beginning of April. Applicants must meet the state code requirements for a council member (Title 50-4). As there is a steep learning curve, it would be preferable that applicants have experience with municipal processes and budgets, as well as experience with strategic planning.
