Stinker Stores has just announced the kickoff of their annual fundraising campaign for JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).

From now until April 26th, ALL Stinker Stores locations will be “selling Sneakers” to raise funds for type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. They have set an ambitious goal of exceeding their record year in 2012. Stores will raise funds by asking individual customers to donate to JDRF, $1 at a time.

Stinker Stores has been partnering with JDRF since 2007 when the first “Sneaker Sales” campaign was held and raised just over $20,000.  To date, Stinker has raised $223,000 for JDRF. Its record year for the campaign was in 2012 with a contribution of $63,500.

“I just love the efforts and support that the Stinker Stations give to JDRF,” said Kale Black, mother to type 1 diabetic child, Kamree, and Idaho resident. “It is so heart warming to see the look on my daughter’s face when we walk into a Stinker Store and see all the sneakers sold to support the hard work that JDRF does to find a cure.”

This campaign is part of an annual fundraising effort for JDRF’s Walk to Cure Diabetes over in the Treasure Valley, set for May 3. A walk is also planned for Idaho Falls later this fall. For more information, visit jdrf.org.

About Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that impacts millions of people around the world. There are currently close to 10,000 people living with T1D in Idaho. The disease occurs when the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells in the pancreas that produce insulin, a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Without insulin, glucose from food stays in the blood, where it can cause serious damage to all of the body’s organ systems. T1D strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. There is no cure.
