A love for cooking combined with a passion for trying new things resulted in an out of the ordinary burger that was the talk of the town. This burger has a delicious twist with blueberry-raspberry compote poured over the patty topped with lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickled jalapenos.

The balance between sweet and spicy left burger lovers with a memorable impression, referring to this pub as eclectic.

The creators behind the tasty creation are Jeff and Kristina Sullivan, owners of Sully’s GastroPub. Formerly known as Sully’s Lunchbox, the pub has grown and expanded into the heart of downtown at 504 Shoup Ave.

The menu features burgers, “sammies” and specials with plans to expand the menu. “We plan to add some pastas, steak and seafood items and we finally added dessert and salad options,” Kristina said. “We’re just going to keep growing and have a little bit of everything.”

A few popular items on the menu are the Sour Hen, the Capistrano burger and the Rachael.

The Sour Hen sandwich is Kristana’s personal favorite. “I just love bacon and avocado and cilantro lime ranch,” Kristina said. This chicken sandwich is made with hand battered chicken, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato cilantro lime ranch and pickles made in house, served on grilled sourdough.

The Capistrano burger is another mouth watering favorite, and favorite of Jeff’s, made of hand pressed local USDA certified beef, bacon, avocado, grilled onion, lettuce tomato and mayo on grilled sourdough. “The grilled onions changed the whole taste,” Kristina said. “They’re like the star of the show.”

The Rachael sandwich is popular for its house smoked pastrami, sauerkraut, homemade russian dressing served on grilled marble rye bread. “We make everything in house except for mayo, ketchup and mustard,” Kristina said.

Growing up, Jeff always had a love for cooking. “He would bring lunches to work and his coworkers would tell him he should be a cook,” Kristina said. When prompted with the idea to open a restaurant, Jeff and Krisitna decided to start on a smaller scale with a food truck. “I’m glad we did because there is a lot to learn.”

After learning about the ins and outs of operating a food truck, they decided to find the perfect spot to open as a pub. “Downtown has a little bit of our heart,” Kristina said. “We waited for the perfect spot to come up and we love the heart, soul and history of downtown.”

Sully’s GastroPub is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and 11 a.m.-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

“We're hoping to have that eclectic feel where one family can come to one spot and just enjoy a little bit of everything,” Kristina said.
