Teton Toyota, Idaho Falls Community Hospital, and Idaho Mountain Training announce Just Ride Idaho, a joint initiative to promote recreational safety, along with general health and wellness in Eastern Idaho.

The initiative is designed to promote the health, wellness, and safety for youth and adults who enjoy the amazing outdoor areas that Eastern Idaho has to offer whether it be you’re on bikes, skis, or using any other recreation vehicle. The three community focused companies will officially kick off the initiative with a Free Family Bike Event that includes a helmet giveaway and free bike maintenance check to kick off the summer season of riding on May 21st from 11A.M. to 2:00PM. at the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Arena in Tautphaus Park.

Davin Napier of Idaho Mountain Trading conveyed, “As more and more of our community is beginning to enjoy all that Southeast Idaho has to offer, we’ve seen an explosion of people participating in cycling. We’re so excited to be a part of the Just Ride Idaho initiative, as we are huge supporters in bringing more biking opportunities to the area. Our goal is keeping all cyclists safe through proper equipment, bicycling awareness, and safe trails and paths to ride on.”

The initial event on May 21st will include bike activities for kids of all ages, a bike rodeo provided by the Bonneville Metropolitan Planning Organization, free food, and fun art activities by The Artitorium. The group plans to give away over 300 bike helmets donated by Idaho Falls Community Hospital that are valued at over fifty five dollars per helmet and all comply with the bicycle safety standards while being comfortable to wear. Brian Ziel from Idaho Falls Community Hospital expressed, “Around 500,000 people a year end up in emergency rooms around the country due to cycling injuries. We are thankful to be able to have the facilities and amazing staff to take care of those this happens to in Eastern Idaho, but our goal is always to prevent. By simply wearing a helmet you can reduce your risk of serious injury by up to 85%. This is why we see such value in giving away helmets and educating the community on how to safely enjoy the area’s amazing trails and bike paths.”

The group will continue to promote outdoor safety throughout the summer and into the fall when they host the Just Ride Idaho Elementary Bike Challenge. They will encourage elementary age students in Ammon and Idaho to bike to school twelve days during a fifteen day period to earn a chance of winning one of thirty two bikes donated by Idaho Mountain Trading. The bike challenge will run September 12th through September 30th and will include a free shirt for every student who completes the challenge. “We have the pleasure of helping people travel to breathtaking outdoor recreation areas all within a few hours drive of our community. Keeping them safe while they are riding and then promoting more of the area’s youth to ride helps everyone have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of getting out,” states General Manager of Teton Toyota, Travis Zmak.
