“Now is the time, we, the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce), share our own story, with cultural integrity at the forefront... Historically and from this day forward people will be reminded that we have and always (will) be known for our vast connection to the land in which we originated from. Guiding and sharing our wisdom is in our DNA.” – Stacia Morfin, Owner and Operator, Nez Perce Tourism, LLC This special Virtual First Thursday and History Happy Hour Zoom event on July 2nd features Stacia Morfin and Janet Gallimore (Executive Director, Idaho State Historical Society) as they discuss how cultural institutions have a role in supporting the traditions and stories of Native American tribes, such as the Nez Perce. Moderator Alison Espindola (Event & Rental Coordinator, Idaho State Museum) will discuss with the two panelists what it takes to be a “cultural storyteller.” In addition to hearing the panelists perspectives you can participate in the conversation through the audience Q&A before the event by emailing events@ishs.idaho.gov or during the event in the chat bar. Visit our friends at Payette Brewing beforehand to take home one of their tasty beers like Urban Surfer, Sofa King Sunny, or Embers. Then hurry home to make sure not to miss History Happy Hour with the Idaho State Museum! Make sure to register early for this complementary event; space is limited to the first 100 registrants. Nearly every person has photos, papers and items that document the history of their lives. They are often irreplaceable objects that sometimes carry generations of memories with them. But preserving these objects cannot always be left up to chance! Archivists work to preserve these memories and more so stories can continue to be told. Tune into this upcoming virtual History Happy Hour to meet two archivists working at the Idaho State Archives, Danielle Grundel (Photo Archivist) and Layce Johnson (Collections Archivist). They keep Idaho’s photographs, newspapers, maps, and more safe and ready for people to learn from now and in the future. Together with moderator Alison Espindola (Event & Rental Coordinator, Idaho State Museum), learn more about why your memories need preserving and what you can do to protect them. Participate in the audience Q&A by asking questions in the chat bar during the event or by submitting them earlier to events@ishs.idaho.gov. Grab a drink to go (maybe a tasty Meriwether Cider, like their Blackberry Boom Cider or Pineapple Habanero), get comfortable at home, and spend some time with the Idaho State Museum during this History Happy Hour! Make sure to register early for this complementary event; space is limited to the first 100 registrants.
