We salute these ebony citizens of Idaho!” – Dr. Mamie Oliver, Idaho Ebony: The Afro-American Presence in Idaho State History. As the first African American professor at Boise State University in 1972, the author of Idaho Ebony: The Afro-American Presence in Idaho State History, and the instigator for adding the St. Paul Baptist Church to the National Register of Historic Places, Dr. Mamie Oliver’s contributions to the retention of Black Idahoan history are vast and prominent. Meet Dr. Mamie Oliver in this History Happy Hour Zoom event on February 3rd as we discuss how she broke barriers and inspired countless others in Idaho and beyond to do the same. Moderator Alison Espindola (Events and Rentals Coordinator, Idaho State Museum) will discuss with Dr. Oliver her life, work, and knowledge of Black history both in Idaho and across the United States.
