IDAHO FALLS -- CBI Offroad Fab is helping Bonneville County School District 93 put students back in the saddle by bringing back the annual 5th Grade Bike Ride after a two-year hiatus.

Every year, excited D93 fifth graders gear-up for summer vacation by riding their bikes from each of their elementary schools to Iona Park. The event is geared toward promoting health and wellness to keep kids active, while also raising awareness about keeping students safe as they walk and bike to school.

“We are so excited to have this event back and the kids just love it,” D93 Community Relations and Communications Director Phil Campbell said. “For a lot of students, this event is the first time some of them have ever gotten on a bike, and this often sparks a new hobby.”

Campbell explained how district officials have been helping find the safest routes for the roughly 4,000 students in the district who ride their bikes to school every day. This is because some of the most direct routes don’t have proper bike lanes or crosswalks, making it extremely dangerous for those students who are sharing busy roads with inattentive drivers during the morning rush hour.

To help raise awareness during National Bike Month, CBI is helping the district get every single fifth grade student in the district onto a bike, and escort them safely to Iona Park. The district will be feeding all of the students lunch at the park before they all ride back to school.

“We want to make sure kids are getting active and healthy while staying safe,” CBI bikes manager Landon Poulter said.”We want to start establishing these healthy lifestyle habits at a young age, and biking is something anyone and everyone can participate in, no matter your age or skill level.”

The event is on May 19th and 21st, and students will start peddling from their schools no later than 8:30 a.m.

These schools will be escorted on Wednesday, May 19th:

  • Bridgewater

  • Tiebreaker

  • Summit Hills

These schools will be escorted on Friday, May 21st:

  • Falls Valley

  • Hillview

  • Cloverdale
