From virtual pumpkin carving to drive thru trick-or-treating, Halloween 2020 is already shaping up to be one for the books. Idaho governor Brad Little recently declared Idaho to be back in stage 3 of reopening amidst the continued pandemic. Notable restrictions include the number of people allowed in an indoor and outdoor gathering and the continued implementation of masks and social distancing in public places. While these limitations may alter Halloween traditions, there are still plenty of things to do before spooky season comes to a close.

Local businesses and fall favorites are working to provide some holiday fun this Saturday. For outdoor autumn fun, consider visiting U-Pick Red Barn or The Wild Adventure Corn Maze on the 31st for trick-or-treating options and candy giveaways. Or, let a local business host your fun; The Zone Sports Grill, Idaho Falls Pediatrics and Chick-Fil-A are all running drive-thru and trunk-or-treat events on Halloween that meet state safety standards and include contests and giveaways. Event details are posted on each business' Facebook page.

Even if 2020 is far from the norm, it's encouraging to be able to safely celebrate the autumn season. There are plenty of Halloween activities that can be done as a household to have fun while staying safe. Carving pumpkins, decorating treats, having a scavenger hunt and enjoying scary movies and games are just a few possibilities for those staying inside on what looks to be a literal spine-chilling night here in Idaho Falls. Remote events are also becoming quite popular, specifically remote costume contests that provide an opportunity to those with difficult or complex costumes to show them off from the comforts of their own home.

Traditional trick-or-treating has been discouraged because of the likelihood to spread COVID; however, costume suggestions and more are available at www.cdc.gov. You can also visit the CDC website for information on how to prevent the spread if you do choose to leave the house on All Hallows' Eve.
