These are some of my favorite months of the year!  The warm weather gives you the perfect opportunity to have family or friends over for a BBQ. And nothing makes a BBQ more memorable than the food—at least not for me! I love trying new things, but there is nothing wrong with the standby fan favorites when you need something quick.

Nothing says 4th of July like apple crisp. I love the crisp topping because it uses oats and lots of spice which complements the sweet tang from the apples. I am a big fan of green apples, but feel free to swap your favorite crisp textured apple for the filling.

This BBQ sauce can be adapted many ways and used on any meat variety or cut. I think wings or ribs are my favorite. But the sweet and smoky flavor gives it something different.

Apple Crisp

Topping:

1 c. oats

1 c. brown sugar

½ c. AP flour

1 tsp. cinnamon

½ c. butter, cold and cut into small cubes

Filling:

6 apples, thinly sliced

½ c. brown sugar

1 tbsp. flour

  1. Mix together all dry ingredients for topping. Cut butter into dry mixture, the same way you would for biscuits.

  2. Combine all ingredients for the filling.

  3. Place filling in a greased 8x8 pan. Crumble the topping over the top.

  4. Bake at 375 for 20-30 minutes until apples are cooked through and topping is golden brown.

BBQ Sauce

2 c. of your favorite BBQ sauce

2 tsp. of McCormick’s Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning

1 tbsp. fresh garlic, minced

2 tbsp. honey or brown sugar

1 tbsp. spicy brown mustard

¼ tsp. each salt and pepper

Combine all ingredients and add to your favorite meat. Will keep in fridge for two weeks.
