If you're interested in learning a few interesting facts about the iconic Barbie doll, we know exactly where to send you: the Collector's Corner.
According to museum co-owner Nida Gyorphy, Barbie has had over 120 jobs and more than 85 pets. Each decade they’ve even changed the Barbie logo/font, and Nida can tell you just by looking at a box which decade it’s from.
Nida, now 77 years young, started collecting dolls when she was 6.
“Even even now that I’m a grandmother, I’m still collecting dolls,” Nida says. “I’ve put out the very best that I have so that everybody can find a memory. They can find furniture that she had or accessories that she had or maybe the actual doll that they played with when they were kids. It’s always fun to see your memories and hopefully some people, like me, have kept their memories alive.”
While Barbie is the main exhibit at the moment, there is plenty more to see at Collector's Corner.
“We have 125 totally different collections,” Nida says. “So if you want a couple of hours of entertainment and you’ve got kids that love to see toys – or 93-year olds who want their memories refreshed -- those are the ones that need to come. Tourists, friends and neighbors alike!”
The exhibit, “60 Years of Barbie: 1959-2019,” will be featured through Aug. 24. The museum is located at 900 John Adams Parkway. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 208-528-9900.
