The 26th annual Eastern Idaho Fly Tying/Fly Fishing Expo is on Friday, March 29th and Saturday, March 30th, 2019 at the Shilo Inn Convention Center in Idaho Falls. The Expo is run by the Snake River Cutthroats Fly Fishing Club, a Trout Unlimited and Fly Fishers International non- profit organization. The admission is free and the doors open at 8 am.

We are very excited to have Charlie Craven from Colorado as our featured tyer. Charlie has a worldwide reputation for innovation in both fly tying and fly fishing. He’s written three books, Charlie Craven’s Basic Fly Tying, Charlie’s Fly Box and Tying Nymphs and some of his signature flies include the Two Bit Hooker and Jujubee Midge nymphs and the Dirty Hippy and Baby Gonga streamers. Charlie will be teaching two hands-on fly tying workshops, the Friday session will be on Craven’s Signature Nymphs and the Saturday session on Craven’s Signature Streamers.

In addition to Charlie there will be over one hundred tyers from around the world showing off their skills in one on one settings. Our Expo is famous for hands-on workshops that are the envy of other shows and expos in the northwest. The tying workshops are taught by some of the best instructors in the country including Steven Fernandez, Boots Allen, Gary Barnes and others, as well as Charlie Craven. The students tie the flies and the instructor supplies the materials and the knowhow. There are also four hands-on casting workshops taught by certified casting instructors. In addition there are two workshops on tying and fly fishing designed especially for women. For more information on Charlie’s and the other workshops, including the price, time and location, go to our website www.srcexpo.com. To sign up for Charlie’s and the other workshops call Jimmy’s All Seasons Anglers at 208-524-7160.

Other activities include a tying theater where regionally recognized tyers demonstrate their well-known flies and techniques. There will be a series of free one hour programs highlighting fly fishing destinations from the western United States and around the world. We have a large youth area where kids, for free, can tie flies and win prizes. There will be 29 vendors from around the west exhibiting fly tying materials and tools, flies and fly fishing equipment, apparel, art and boats. There will be raffles and silent auctions. There is a Fly Fishing Film Festival on Friday evening, March 29th at the Colonial Theater. On Saturday evening we have our gala Banquet and Silent and Live Auctions with the doors opening a 5:30 pm for the happy hour.

We have various packages available for sale that include banquet tickets, raffle tickets, tickets for rod and reel drawings and Film Festival tickets. These packages offer a significant savings over buying items individually. For more information on the packages, workshops, Film Festival and other activities, visit our club website at www.snakerivercutthroats.org or our expo website at www.srcexpo.com or call Jimmy’s All Seasons Anglers at 208-524-7160.

The proceeds from the Expo go towards conservation projects on our home waters in southeastern Idaho and for youth and adult education on fly fishing. We also feel that the Expo is one of the premier events in Idaho Falls. So please come and join us. Bring you kids and grandkids for a truly enjoyable family experience.
