The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is full of history. Old mining shacks, even older indian artifacts and, in the middle of it all, a guide who’s been rowing for almost as long as the Wilderness Act that protects the water he works on.
“I never found another line of work that drew me away from guiding,” says Larry McGowan, Middle Fork River Expeditions rafting guide. “It’s alright to have goals and move up, but how wonderful is it to figure out in your 20s what you want to do and be at ease with doing that for a considerable number of years.”
