The Eastern Idaho State Fair (EISF) is almost here, and you know what that means? Fair Food. The EISF is famous for its food, and this year will be no different.

“The EISF is proud to have the best fair food in the Intermountain West,” according to their website, Fun At The Fair. “In celebration of the delicious array of fair food, the EISF is filled with a buffet of food giveaways and contests through the week.”

To make sure the food innovation continues, the fair hosts the “Fairest Of Them All” best fair food competition each year. The various fair food vendors are competing for awards from one of three categories:

  • Best of the Best
  • Best New Food Creation
  • People’s Choice

The EISF created a video featuring several award winners in which they discuss the positive impact the award has had on their business.

With the fair just a few weeks away, here are four of our favorite treats that you can try:

Bullseye Burger:

This first item might sound too good to be true, but as the winner of various EISF awards, we assure you it is very much available for you to try.

‘This burger is made with the best Doug’s Meat hamburger patty, followed with melted cheese and our homemade BBQ sauce,” according to The Outlaw, the catering company behind the Bullseye Burger’s website. “Next, we pile on thick bacon and stack all of that between a glazed donut. Too good to be true? Most definitely not.”

Tiger Ears:

If you are in the mood for fried food, then you need to try a tiger ear.

Tiger Ears are large pieces of fried dough that are often covered with various toppings, including sugar, cinnamon or honey butter.

Each year, volunteers from the Boy Scouts of America will create and serve these treats. If you see a long line near the food, don’t be surprised if it is Tiger Ear fans waiting for their deep-fried snack.

Crazy Corn from El Elote Loco:

“We specialize in Mexican-style sweet corn,” according to El Elote Loco’s facebook page. “If you don't know what that is, watch Nacho Libre. It's so good you want the corn in your face.”

Elote, a traditional Mexican treat, is a grilled cob of corn covered in "crema". Toppings on a traditional elote might include lime juice, cheese and peppers.

Any trip to the fair is incomplete without a cob crazy corn, a unique take on a classic fair food.

Reed’s Dairy Ice Cream:

Though many Idaho residents can get this frozen treat throughout the year, there is something special about a scoop of Reed’s Dairy Ice Cream at the fair.

Reed’s Dairy makes their ice cream from local cows, and all of their ingredients are fresh. They go above and beyond . In fact, their ice cream is so good, it was named the best ice cream in Idaho by various websites (click here, here and here).
