Inspired by network television's Amazing Race, this community event is one of the most unique and popular of its kind. By any measuring stick you can imagine, the Great Race for Education is a dedicated fundraising machine for Eastern Idaho Technical College.

Raising money for scholarships is fun when all the people involved have a commitment to affordable local education.

Teams slots for the race will likely be filled by the time you read this, but volunteers, team owners and contributors are always in high demand.

This summer's installment has been tagged “The Wizard of Oz Edition." If it's anything like last year's superhero theme, you can expect more than a few laughs and spectacles on your way to the finish line.

The top 3 teams that win the event will award scholarships in their organizations name at the annual scholarship ceremony in April 2017. Each team will have a chance to meet the recipient of their scholarship and have a photo opportunity. Annually the EITC Foundation awards nearly $200,000 in scholarships to EITC students.

Major sponsors for the 2016 Great Race for Education are Snake River Landing, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Mountain View Hospital, Idaho Central Credit Union, Progrexion, Cargill, Intermountain Gas, Wells Fargo, Alphagraphics, Teton Toyota & Volkswagen, Kraupp, Inc. and Rich Broadcasting.

The event is expected to bring a record amount of teams and sponsors. Since the inception of this event the community has helped raise well over $250,000 to support the scholarship program.

Natalie Hebard, Foundation Executive Director explains, “The Great Race for Education has quite the cult following and was originally intended to be held for just a few years in place of the traditional golf tournament. This is the eighth year and I believe it will make it to 10 years easily if not many more after that mark. If we continue to have the enthusiasm I think we have a good chance at keeping the momentum going for years to come.”
