Strut Your Mutt

Pet-friendly fun on Aug. 25

Strut Your Mutt

The Snake River Animal Shelter's 5th Annual Mutt Strut is back! This unique fun run will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Freeman Park shelter #3. The Strut begins at 9 a.m. with check-in at 8 a.m. Participants can walk or run alone or you may decide to form a PACK. The minimum entry fee is $25/person.

Organizers suggest that instead of paying your own entry fee, you collect pledges/donations to go toward your fundraising goal and building the Snake River Animal Shelter. The person who raises the most donations over $500 wins a brand new five-burner gas grill! Ask your friends and family and co-workers to sponsor you.

You can opt for distances of 1 mile, 5k, or 10K with or without your mutt. If you would like to strut with a mutt, but do not currently have one, please let us know, and we can arrange for you to walk a foster mutt. The first 200 Strutters receive a goody bag and a t-shirt. Don't forget to track your PACK's progress on the shelter's online leader board.

There will also be a pre-check-in bash on August 24th from 3-7 .p.m at Shelter #3 with KBear FM and ALCHEMY CATERING.

Each year, one dog and one cat are selected to be the SRAS mascot for the year. The winning cat and dog will be featured in our publications and promotions, win some fun prizes, and will reign from this Mutt Strut event until the 2013 Mutt Strut event.

While the majority of this contest is based on personality (determined by the 300 word essay), it is important that the mascot represent core values of the SRAS purpose and mission. Therefore, it is required that eligible contestants are spayed/neutered, up to date on all shots, and licensed with the city if applicable.

The Dog Mascot must enjoy meeting people, being around children and other dogs, and be able to attend SRAS events (including various school visits).

Please register online here. The deadline for Mascot Contest submissions is Friday, August 17th, 2012. The Canine contestants will meet the judges at the Mutt Strut and Pet Fair on August 25 at 10 a.m. The winner will be crowned at noon.

Along with the strut itself is The Pet Fair--a family-friendly event that focuses on our four-legged companions, and has activities and vendors for all to enjoy. This year, the organizers have the added attractions of a balloon artist and caricature drawings as well. Other attractions include: Face

Painting, food by BJ's Bayou, local vendors (both human and pet related), free ice cream from Farr's, pet contests, raffles, photo booth and canine demonstrations.

The Pet Fair begins at 10am--directly after the Mutt Strut--and continues until 2 p.m.
