One of the most unique foot races in the region, this grueling event offers up a 40-mile relay, 5-mile run or a 40-mile ultra marathon.
Staged at Summit Orthopaedics, the "To Bone & Back" 40-Mile Relay, 5-Mile Run, Ultra Marathon is a very unique running experience, to say the least.
The majority of participants in this grueling event are runners in eight-person relay teams. Each runner carries the Bone Baton for a 5-mile leg, and then hands off to the next teammate. For the truly adventurous, the 40-mile solo ultra marathon is also available. (Fun fact: that's a whopping 211,000 feet.)
For those unable to get a relay team together, the 5-mile run is available. The route begins in Idaho Falls, and continues along winding, hilly country roads to the small farming area called Bone. The Relay Race then returns along the same route. The race is fully supported. There are water stations every 2.5 miles. The ultra marathoners have sports drink, energy gel packs, and fruit available every 5 miles.
During the race, the finish line at Summit Orthopaedics is alive with activities and things to do including Great Harvest Bread, Bounce toys for the kids, and plenty of food. This is a very challenging race, and those who participate know it means a lot to be able to say, “I ran To Bone & Back.”
