Local athletes will have two great events to choose from this weekend--a classic race and a triathlon now in its second year.
Set at Snake River Landing, the Scenic River Classic is a long-standing event here in Idaho Falls, and 2012 promises to be another great year for fundraising to benefit programs at Development Workshop. The races will include a half marathon, 10k run, 5k run and walk, and a kids one-mile walk.
You'll find plenty of room to park, a tent for shade and a large grassy area to relax on after the race. Refreshments will be available, as will live music and prize drawings. For more details visit the events page at www.dwinc.org.
Staged westward near Twin Falls, Personal Best Performance and Twin Falls County Parks and Waterways will be hosting the second annual Magic Man Triathlon on June 16 starting at Murtaugh Lake Recreation area. This will be both a Sprint and Olympic distance event.
According to event organizers, the marathon has just teamed up with the Red Lion in Twin Falls as the official hotel sponsor. (Discount rate is $75 per night and will include a special early breakfast available for the athletes.)
Awards will be given for Overall, Age Group, Clydesdale, Athena, Relay divisions. There will be post-race food, great swag, raffles and free posters. This will be a very fast and mostly flat course. The Twin Falls County Search and Rescue Dive Team will be providing water support.
