The Camp Magical Moments dream began in 2003 when a former executive director of the American Cancer Society moved to the beautiful East Idaho mountains along the South Fork of the Snake River.
This founder’s hope was to create a camping experience for children who have had or currently have cancer, allowing them the opportunity to get away from their disease and to just be kids for one week. What is so special about the camp is that it will take place on a guest ranch that the founder and her husband own, the Hansen Guest Ranch. The ranch offers tennis, fishing, horseback riding and lots of Old West experiences that the camp incorporates.
This year's camp dates are set for June 17-23. Children ages 7-12 years old can attend camp free of charge. Each child will be under the supervision of a counselor and supported by staff members and volunteers. A Med Shed is available allowing a retreat for each camper where medication can be distributed under the supervision of a professional medical team.
Since Hansen Guest Ranch is located in Swan Valley, home of the South Fork of the Snake River (every fly-fisherman’s dream location) activities for the campers offer memorable experiences. Some of the activities offered at camp include fishing; horse-back riding; campfires; arts and crafts; swimming; archery; and many more fun activities. A themed dance takes place during the week.
In the summer of 2004 a group of volunteers was formed and it was the mission of all of these volunteers to offer the best camping experience for each and every one of these children. They were/are still committed to providing an environment of fun, friendship and love all, in a medically supervised atmosphere where the campers medical needs are met.
The camp is a member of COCA (Children’s Oncology Camping Association) and the American Camp Association, whose standards are followed at camp. Donations are always appreciated.
