February 3, 2010 Photo Contest Winners Over 600 submissions for 2010 Steve Smede, Idaho Falls Magazine The results are in for the 2010 Idaho Falls magazine photo contest. Although our original plan was to make a splash of the winning images in our upcoming March/April issue, high interest and demand (read: a relentless stream of calls and emails) has spurred us to jump the gun a bit! You’ll still have to wait to get the full visual gamut of winning submissions, honorable mentions and more in the forthcoming edition of the magazine, but for now, you'll at least have a taste of what's in store. Sponsored by Perfect Light Camera & Supply and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, this year’s contest fetched several hundred submissions. From the original pool of images, 150 were selected for a day of detailed assessment by an esteemed group of local professional photographers: Alyce Clegg, Kort Duce, Melissa Miller and Leland Howard. Photos were rated on a point system that was broken down into specific areas of criteria, such as composition, lighting, overall impact and other hallmark traits of exceptional images. There were more than a few close calls. The result is a plethora of “honorable mentions” in addition to the grand prize winner and 1st-through-3rd place winners in each category. Our editor also took it upon himself to defy the collective wisdom of the group and set aside a collection of images deemed “Editor’s Choice.” Check it out in the March issue, along with descriptions and assessments of each winning photo. These images will also be going on display March 10 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. A ribbon cutting will be held at 4 p.m. that day with the Greater Idaho Falls Chamber of Commerce to open the permanent exhibit.
