Nothing like a little shameless self-promotion to start off the new year. Here we have a 3-minute recap of imagery from the pages (published and un-published) of Idaho Falls magazine.
This cob salad of photos from 2009 is by no means a full account of what we published this year, but it should at least give our readers a taste of what subject matter we've been covering (in some cases, what we have YET to cover).
As always, the most cherished pictures of the lot are the candids and portraits of our readers, our friends, our colleagues and our fellow citizens. Every photo tells a story, and that applies more to photographs of people than to any other subject.
Especially in regards to visuals, this year has been unique for the magazine. As the magazine has grown, so has our need for supporting artwork. Our graphic artist, Dayne Dingman, deserves the lion's share of credit for keeping the publication on the cutting edge of layout design.
Dayne would be the first to say that artistic tools are only as good as the artist behind them, but there are rare exceptions. Every once in a great while, some piece of technology comes along that allows artistic expression to expand in unforeseen ways.
Such a tool--the Canon 5D Mark II digital SLR camera--landed in my lap in December of 2008. While I was quite impressed with the device for "still shots," what really blew me away was its unique ability to shoot full HD video as well.
You can count on seeing more video presentations in 2010 at idahofallsmagazine.com, but we also hope to mix it up a bit with the occasional slideshow and perhaps a few narrative pieces from features within the magazine.
Thanks for watching!
