As summer winds down get out and head over to Crater of the Moon National Monument and Preserve for a ranger-guided walk or special presentations and events.
Daily Ranger-guided Walks and Talks
Climb a volcano, explore a lava tube or join in for an evening presentation in the campground. Walks and talks are offered daily throughout the summer.
Aug. 7: Fire Prevention Education
Members of the BLM Wildland Fire Prevention Education Team will provide special evening presentations including a Young Firefighter activity during the Junior Ranger program and the evening campground presentation. Meet in the campground amphitheater for both events.
Aug. 14-15: Free Weekend
Entrance fees are waived this weekend in order to encourage everyone to visit the National Parks.
August 14: Photography Workshop
Join American Landscape Photographer Terry Halbert to learn how you can take better photographs of your favorite national park in the classroom followed by some hands-on photography along the loop road. Meet at the Visitor Center. The workshop is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m.
August 14: Expedition America Presentation
Expedition America, A multimedia presentation chronicling Halbert’s year long journey to each of America’s National Parks. It’s a must for National Park enthusiasts. The presentation will run from 9 to 10 p.m.
August 21: 10th Anniversary Celebration
Officials from the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management will be on hand to mark the 10th anniversary of cooperative management between the two agencies at Craters of the Moon. A new exhibit will be opened and there will be speeches and birthday cake. The festivities will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
