Got big plans to check out the Idaho Falls Zoo at Tautphaus Park this spring? By all means, have at it. Just be mindful of some temporary growing pains due to the property’s upcoming expansion project.
In preparation for construction of the William J. Maeck Education Center, the Idaho Falls City Council has approved a measure to vacate a portion of Rogers Street as a public access road.
Rogers runs along the south side of the zoo, but will only be affected between Rollandet Street and Carnival Way. The stretch from Carnival Way to South Boulevard will remain open for vehicles, and visitors will still be able to reach the Joe Marmo/Wayne Lehto Ice Arena. (Want to get to the park from Rolladet? Use Soft Ball Drive.)
According to city officials, the current barricades will suffice until a permanent solution is put in place after construction begins.
