For the second time in three years, El Elote Loco took home the top honors of the People’s Choice Award for their Mexican Crazy Corn. This contest, sponsored by Rich Broadcasting, kicks off in early August with the top 32 fair food favorites. Nominations come from Facebook, fair leadership and other fair employees. Each week, the list is whittled down until only the top four remain in the final bracket.
This year, Mexican Crazy Corn from El Elote Loco, Scone Nuggets from the Shelley Kiwanis Club, Teriyaki Bowls from the Good Wok and the Outlaw Burger from Outlaw Catering were the final four nominees.
On Monday, Sept. 4, these top four vendors presented their food to a panel of live judges. Some of the judges were selected from Facebook while others were picked from the audience. Each food was tasted and judged on appearance and taste. El Eloto Loco took home the top honors, with Scone Nuggets coming in second and the Outlaw Burger and Teriyaki Bowl tying for third.
“This means a lot," says Richard Johnson, owner of Mexican Crazy Corn. "This is our family business, so we work hard every year. We work on a farm, we grow our own corn and this is the highlight of the year. To come to the fair, win the People's Choice Award and deliver a super product to all the fans.
The people have spoken, as evident by the live voting and constant line in front of El Elote Loco.
