Can you smell the corn dogs? Can you hear the carnival barkers and carousels?

The Eastern Idaho State Fair is still 115 days away, but it's probably not too early to mark your calendar for the eight-day fun fest in early September. And it's definitely not too early to nominate a 2017 EISF Grand Marshall.

Here's the skinny from our friends at the fair:

Eastern Idaho is populated with some of the most commendable individuals. Each year, the Eastern Idaho State Fair Board of Directors selects a Grand Marshal to represent the EISF at the Opening Day Parade. This special person is chosen based on their lifetime service to the Eastern Idaho State Fair and/or the community. Countless individuals are deserving of this award, but fair organizers need your help finding an outstanding individual to commemorate at the 2017 Fair. If you know someone who is deserving of this award, submit a nomination form so the EISF can highlight their service and success.

Submitting a nomination form is easy. Simply go to www.funatthefair.com, download the form, fill it out, and submit it via e-mail, fax, or in person at the Fair Office. Can’t locate the application? Shoot an e-mail to thefair@funatthefair.com and fair staff will e-mail the document directly to you! Or give them a call and they will get you started nominating someone who deserves this recognition. (If technology is giving you too much grief, come on into the Fair Office and they will have a nomination form on hand, ready for you to fill out.)

Nominations must be turned in by May 15 for the nominee to be considered for this year’s fair. Nominees must be located in or affiliated with the 16 counties that comprise the EISF: Bannock, Bear Lake, Bingham, Bonneville, Butte, Caribou, Clark, Custer, Franklin, Fremont, Jefferson, Lemhi, Madison, Oneida, Power, and Teton. Questions can be directed to Marcene at thefair@funatthefair.com or 208-785-2480.

Perks of becoming the Grand Marshal:

- Represent the EISF at the Opening Day Parade – held on Saturday, Sept. 2.
- Receive a LIFETIME PASS to the EISF!
- Recognition for years of service and accomplishments – Fair Fame!
