It’s a balmy August afternoon in the heart of the Targhee National Forest, but the dust-light slicing through the treetops speaks of another time and place — maybe even another planet. On either side of our Polaris RZR two-seater, the foliage races by in a blur of glowing green. There will be time soon enough to park our rigs and soak up the scenery, but until then we’ve got another objective in mind.
It’s Two-Top or Bust. It’s Bitch Creek or Bye-Bye. If time allows, maybe even Sawtelle or Saiyanara.
“You can’t beat a place like this,” says Steve Dutcher, eastern Idaho trail nut and controller for the Island Park ATV rental shop High Mountain Adventures. “For most ATV folks it’s a whole different world. The trail system is really one of a kind.”
