Drive & Drop

An easy way to give to those who need it

When is the last time you were grateful for a toothbrush?  What about a box of Macaroni and Cheese?

Such simple, basic things are often taken for granted.  But for those who don’t have them, the gift of something as simple as a can of food can make a world of difference.

Last year the Idaho Falls magazine collected over 3,000 items for those in need at our annual food drive, Drive & Drop.  Every item we collected went to one of four places: The Haven Shelter, City of Refuge, Community Food Basket Idaho Falls or the Soup Kitchen.

Drive & Drop is simple: you drive up with the goods you want to donate, tell us where in your car they are located, and we’ll unload for you.  In addition to the feel-goods, you’ll drive away with a coupon for a free six-ounce frozen yogurt from Orange Leaf.

This year’s Drive & Drop will be in the parking lot of Albertsons (590 E. 17th St., Idaho Falls) on April 23, 2016, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  We are looking for canned goods, nonperishable foods, household cleaning supplies and basic hygiene items.

Where are the Drive & Drop donations going?

The Haven Shelter
The Haven provides shelter for homeless families and single women.  In addition to the short-term help with food and housing, the shelter also offers support services and the tools to help people make better lives for themselves in the future.

City of Refuge
City of Refuge serves homeless men by providing meals and emergency shelter.  The refuge also gives supplies to those who need it.

Community Food Basket Idaho Falls
Formerly the Idaho Falls Community Food Bank, Community Food Basket Idaho Falls is a food pantry for people who would otherwise go hungry.  It helps feed hundreds and has made a difference in countless lives since its opening in 1980.

The Soup Kitchen
The Soup Kitchen started out serving afternoon meals on weekends; it is now open seven days a week and serves over 55,000 meals a year.
