Taylor’s Crossing Charter School’s first annual food drive recently concluded and yielded success beyond anticipation. The contributions to the Community Food Basket Idaho Falls have been a benefit. The charter school collected nearly 2,500 food items which equates to over a ton, literally.

Taylor’s Crossing is a K through 12th grade school which provided their students with a unique opportunity. The grades were divided into teams, K-6th and 7th-12th, and were tasked with gathering as many canned goods as they could for their team. After the conclusion of the competition the goods would be counted and the winning group would get to enjoy a donut party.

The proceedings proved to be a tremendous success breeding stiff competition on both sides. Only a few items separated the final tally. The K-6th grade team won the competition with total collections at 2,496 food items for the drive.

The spirit of giving was felt by both students and faculty. Holly Borresen, high school volunteer coordinator, said, “This is the most humbling experience I have ever had.”

Volunteers at the Community Food Basket Idaho Falls are also feeling the effects of the students’ dedication. “This is truly one of the most successful food drives that has ever been hosted to the benefit of our organization,” said Executive Director of the Community Food Basket Idaho, Bud Langerak. “I can’t express enough gratitude to the students, faculty and staff of Taylor’s Crossing Charter School for their assistance in helping us fill the need during the winter season.”
