The lawyers at Idaho Falls law firm Smith & Banks just got a big upgrade. The firm has recently merged with Hawley Troxell, Idaho’s largest full-service business law firm. They are headquartered in Boise, with satellite offices in Pocatello, Coeur d’Alene, and Reno, Nevada.

Smith & Banks is a four attorney firm led by its founding partners, Marvin M. Smith, Jeffery W. Banks and Marvin K. Smith. Steven M. Boyce is currently of counsel with Smith & Banks and Austin Strobel will join the firm after sitting for the bar exam at the end of July.

“We are delighted with this combination,” said Nick Miller, Managing Partner of Hawley Troxell. “Smith and Banks attorneys are extremely knowledgeable and well-thought of in their community, so they are the perfect fit for us and provide us an opportunity to expand the firm’s presence in Southeast Idaho.” In addition, their strong healthcare and litigation focus complements several of our existing practice areas.”

“This combination provides us the best of both worlds—we will maintain our Idaho Falls team as is, but have the benefit of the resources and expanded expertise of a larger firm," said Marvin M. Smith, Senior Partner of Smith & Banks. "Hawley Troxell’s strong brand and resources will benefit our clients and allow us to serve a broader range of their legal needs.” Smith is a member of the Idaho State Bar and the Utah State Bar. He practices primarily in the areas of hospital law, medical malpractice, insurance law, general litigation, and alternative dispute resolution, including mediations and arbitrations.

“There are considerable synergies between the two firms,” said Jeffery W. Banks. Banks is a member of the Idaho State Bar and of the American Bar Association, the medical, litigation and family law sections. Banks concentrates his practice primarily in the areas of civil litigation, family law, personal injury, medical malpractice defense and insurance defense.

Reuben Clark Law School, Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.
