“Hey kids! Have you ever seen a Great Horned Owl in the wild?” Suddenly, several excited students circle around a tree at Market Lake, engaged in the day’s lesson on bird watching. High up in a tree we see the owl, looking very perturbed that its afternoon nap was disturbed. That was the first day of summer camp last year during the Museum of Idaho’s Rocky Mountain Adventure Camps. If you are looking for a truly unique summer camp experience for both kids and adults, the MOI’s Rocky Mountain Adventure Camps have just what you want. Participants learn about the natural history of Idaho while exploring the great outdoors. Through some incredible activities such as hiking, visiting lava flows in the desert, conducting experiments, working with guest scientists, and much more kids ages 6-14 will have an educational experience at camp this summer that they won’t forget. Who says summer camps are only for kids? The Museum of Idaho also offers a series of two-day camps for all adults, specifically for teachers to fulfill the continuing education credit requirements. Spend the day learning about water in the West while you go whitewater rafting, hike in Harriman State Park or explore the energy issues confronting our region. The Museum of Idaho is proud to partner with Gonzales-Stoller Surveillance, Idaho Fish and Game and the Idaho Falls Family YMCA to bring you an amazing experience in the Rocky Mountain Adventure Camps. Registration is now open. For more information, call the Museum of Idaho Education department at 522-1400 ext. 3002 or visit www.museumofidaho.org.

One-Day Classes Along with the excitement of adventure camps, you won’t want to miss the Museum of Idaho’s newest education programs. One-day classes for kids ages 2-12 will explore a fun and educational topic that is suited to different age brackets (2-4, 5-6, 7-9 and 10-12 years old). For example, the 10-12 age group features the following classes this summer:

Aug. 6: Party Like a Rock Star Using the current exhibit, Guitars: Instrument that Rocked the World, students will learn about sound, how a guitar works and how to make a musical instrument.

Aug. 13: Fun With Science Science really is a lot of fun! Explore natural and physical scientific concepts that happenaround you every day.

Aug. 20: Museum Detectives Join infor a day of exploration behind-the-scenes in the museum. You’ll discover how to preserve the past and use the skills you’ve learned to solve a museum mystery. To register for One Day Classes, visit www.museumofidaho.org or contact Sunny Katseanes, Education director at 522-1400 ext. 3002; education@museumofidaho.org.
